Obituary

A celebration of life for William David McGuffee, a servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, at the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd. Monroe, Louisiana, with his son, Rev. Arron McGuffee, officiating. Visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe.

David McGuffee was a strong and supportive husband, brother, father, grandfather, and a pastor to many people for 53 years. He was known for his servant leadership, intentional connection to others, and his love for the Lord. He died Tuesday, May 26th, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was 77.

He was born in McComb, Mississippi, on September 28th, 1948. He was the son of Harry and Hattie Mae McGuffee. He was raised in a household that valued God, service, patriotism, and family.

He graduated from Many High School and went on to attend LeTourneau College where his focus was excelling on their basketball team. He transferred to Northeast Louisiana University to continue his studies. Several years later, after realizing his calling was to serve God with his career, he went to Pensacola Bible Institute where he honed his theological practices to prepare for ministry.

On the suggestion of his mother to visit an “old family friend”, he was reintroduced to the beautiful Janie McDaniel. They fell hard into love and married three months later. She never left his side throughout their 55 years of marriage.

Shortly after gaining a wife, David worked as a salesman and manager for Firestone Tire Company. While at Firestone, he felt the Lord tugging on his heart to serve in ministry instead. He surrendered to Lord’s service and started his pastorate at Horseshoe Baptist Church, in Mer Rouge, Louisiana.

Over the next 53 years, David would go on to serve and pastor at numerous churches across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. His love for everyone led him into witnessing to those in federal prison and detention centers. During that time he founded the non-profit organization, Crumbs from Christ. This outreach evangelism now carries on his legacy and mission, even after death. The notable slogan of the non-profit states, “Feed the World with Crumbs from Christ”.

The greatest of all his ministries was saved for last. For the last two years of his life, he lived at Ouachita Rehabilitation Center where he continued to display God’s love by handing out bibles, gifting little happies like candy, flashlights, and pens, praying with nursing and residents daily, and proving to everyone who came in contact with him that someone deeply cared about them. This evidently showed to everyone that you can serve the Lord in all circumstances; His timing is the best timing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Janie Ruth McGuffee; two sisters: Betty Cavanaugh and Hattie White; and one brother: Jimmy McGuffee; three children: Janie Denise Simpson, Carmen Louise Patrick, and Arron David McGuffee; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hattie McGuffee; his son: David William McGuffee; and his brothers: Woodson and Pete McGuffee.

His pallbearers are Nathaniel Meeks, Will Emfinger, Don Simpson, Chris Patrick, Ethan McGuffee, and Franklin Simpson. His honorary pall bearers include Mike Ikard and Parnel Barfield.

David had a giving spirit and as such, his favorite quote by missionary and martyr Jim Elliott reads “He is no fool who gives what he can not keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”
