Richard was born in Monroe, LA, on October 31, 1947, to Pearl Maxwell Loftin Collins and Thomas Riley Loftin. He met his Lord and Savior on June 20, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center, surrounded by all of his devoted family. Richard, known as Pops, had no greater joy in life than his eight grandchildren: Connor and Evan Loftin, Caroline, Kai, and Cameryn Spencer, Jordan Young, Brycen and Madilyn Sanderlin. A man of many interests, he enjoyed golf, duck hunting, training Labrador Retrievers for field trial competitions, but most of all, he loved coaching football, girls' softball, and mentoring young athletes. Richard loved his church deeply, The Assembly of West Monroe, and especially being able to serve in any way possible. He truly cherished his Men’s Sunday School class, the GBU.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Becky Anding Loftin; his four children: Richard Loftin, Jr. and Alisha of Houston, TX, Kelly Loftin of Austin, TX, Kathryn Spencer and Brandon of Rockwall, TX, and Lindsay Sanderlin and Kyle of West Monroe, LA; nephews, Jacob and A.J. Staggs; and beloved cousins Terry, Phyllis, and Maybeth.
Pallbearers will be Robert Durham, John Ashbrook, Herschel Floyd, Carlton Terrell, Connor Loftin, and Evan Loftin.
Richard was deeply touched by those with visual impairment throughout his life. Memorials may be made to the National Federation of the Blind at nfb.org/contribute/give
