It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Robert Miles “Butch” Mason, who left us on September 12, 2025, at the age of 82. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after a fall.
Butch was born on December 27, 1942, to Joe and Florence Mason, in Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of Longville High School and attended Louisiana Tech University.
Butch was a life-long safety professional beginning in his early days in the oil and gas industry which led him in the prime of his career to Ford, Bacon & Davis; his own company, Safety Solutions, Inc; and ultimately to James Machine Works. An entrepreneur at heart, he owned several successful convenience stores including Short Stop in West Monroe. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many happy hours fishing throughout his life.
Butch had deep faith in the Lord and, without fail, his family and friends describe him as one of the kindest people they have ever known.
Butch’s greatest joy throughout his life has always been his family. He leaves behind a loving wife, Susan; two children, Vicki Drake (Gene) and Toni Stennett (Jim Stephens); two stepchildren, Robin Scott (Tim) and Bambi Tonore (Jim); nine grandchildren, Mason Drake (Mallory), Reagan Drake (Mallory), Cari Dupree (Danny), Carlee Stennett (Colby Wood), Mclin Hickman (Shawn), Tyler Smith (Perry), Ellie Horacek (Stephen), Sylvan Starnes (Mandi) and Emma Starnes (Bart Hopkins); ten great grandchildren, Anderson and Miles Drake; Brooks Winters and Carter Dupree; Caden, Liner and Parks Hickman; Nell and Nora Smith; and Benny Hopkins; older brother, George Mason (Janice); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy Fojt. Butch loved his family and they returned that love. He will be greatly missed.
