Rose Sharon Battaglia Burdine, 90, entered the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 21, 2018. A celebration service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday (her favorite day of the week), March 25, 2018, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Bishop John W. Jones will officiate.
Mama Rose was born April 7, 1927, in Monroe to Pete and Rosa Battaglia and was one of 13 children. She attended Ouachita Parish High School and went on to attend cosmetology school in Delhi. She met her husband, John Charles Burdine, in the fall of 1949 at a Ouachita football game. A few months later on New Year’s Eve of ’49, Charles asked her to go to the Sugar Bowl where LSU would be playing Oklahoma. She responded with, “I’m not going out of town with you! We’re not married!” They drove to Shreveport that day and were married.
Mama Rose was a homemaker and an adoring mother to her two girls, Jody and Kristin, and everyone else that knew her. She has fed hundreds of friends and family her famous suga (homemade spaghetti and meatballs) around her kitchen table. She loved Jesus with all her heart and always made sure that everyone she came in contact with had the opportunity to know Him the way she did. She was a beloved member of Grace Pointe Church in Monroe.
We will never be able to fill the void she left but we take joy and find peace knowing that she’s with Jesus and we will all see her again one day.
Mama Rose lived a blessed life and will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Jody Burdine of Monroe, and Kristin Cupp and husband Steve of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, Michael Statham and his wife Kristy of West Monroe, Zach, Eli, Lucas, Isaac, and Lydia Cupp of Gulfport, MS; great grandchildren, Parker and Cannon Statham of West Monroe; siblings, Kay Fontana, Ann Battaglia, and Johnny Battaglia of Monroe; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; special family friends, Steve and Connie McGee, Thad and Margie Dilday, Ray and Babs Clary, and Robert Staley.
