In the early hours of May 1, 2024, Ruth G. Gerson,100 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was born on July 30, 1923, on Lafayette Street in Lafayette, LA. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where she met the love of her life, Albert W. Gerson and on the 24th of August 1943, they were married. They were happily married for 59 years until his passing in July of 2007.
Ruth loved to help those in need. She was a wonderful cook, whose spaghetti dinner was legendary. Ruth’s hands were always busy. She loved to clean house, to sew, and to decorate. One of her many talents was china painting and she has left her family and friends with many beautiful pieces to remember her by.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Betty Gerson; daughter and son-in-law, Daniel and Victoria Gerson Seals; grandchildren, Deborah Thomas, Ben Gerson, Adam Gerson, and Katia Askildt; six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is very thankful to the many friends who helped her so much, especially in her later life. They include Jean Martin, Harvey Hanson, Madge Moore, and Jackie Holmes.
Private family services will be held at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
