Obituary

A graveside service for Sandra Ann Cararas, 83, of Sterlington, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, with Rev. Marcell Crowe officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the funeral home.

Sandra was born March 11, 1943, and passed away June 4, 2026, in Monroe. She was a Professor at University of Texas and Director of University of Texas Press. She taught English, Shakespear, and technical writing. She was a devout Republican and served on multiple committees for the state of Texas. She also served as a delegate on the voting floors in presidential elections in Washington D.C.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother, Samuel Hawkins, Jr.

Survivors include her brother, Stewart Cararas (Shelia); nephews, Stewart Cararas, Jr., Shaine Cararas, Scott Cararas (Tana) and Samuel Cararas III (Jonell); great nephews, Cullen Cararas, Joseph Cararas and Waylon Chapman; nieces, Victoria Chapman (Travis), and Karla Cararas (Dawn); and great nieces, Magnolia, Sarah, Samantha and Kyla Hebert.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Cararas, Travis Chapman, Dwayne Chapman, Preston White, Connor McKoin, Carson McKoin, and David Deron. Honorary pallbearers will be Omar Salinas and Jody McKoin.
