Shirlane Duke West, a resident of Olla, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 79, just two days before her 80th birthday.
Shirlane was born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, the daughter of the late D. C. “Red” Duke and Carmel Cruse-Duke. In 2016, she moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, before later returning to Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby R. West; her son, Thomas “Tommy” Swaggart; her brothers, Glen and Dale Duke; and Dale’s daughter, Sherry.
Shirlane is survived by her daughter, Stacie Swaggart Retzlaff and son-in-law, Jonathan Retzlaff; her grandsons, Alexander and Nicolas Retzlaff; and her extended family, including seven stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Throughout her life, Shirlane enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family. She especially cherished her grandchildren and the many adventures and memories they shared together.
Shirlane will be remembered for her kindness, her love for others, her sense of adventure, and the joy she found in life’s experiences. She loved attending church services and Ladies Bible classes, and her faith was an important part of her life.
Her family invites everyone who knew and loved Shirlane to join them in celebrating her life and sharing the memories that made her so special.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, Louisiana 71203, with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
The funeral service will include a remembrance read by her grandson.
