Mrs. Edwards was born on October 13, 1934, in Waco, TX, and went to be with her Lord on February 4, 2026, in Monroe. She was a faithful member of North Monroe Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus Benjamin Brown and Annie Carrie Everett Brown; daughter, Cynthia Kay Newland; grandson, Erik Newland; and five siblings, Mildred, Herbert, Leroy, Margaret, and Lillie (T-Bone).
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Keith Edwards; children, Karen Ford and husband David, and Darla Harvey and husband Mike; grandchildren, Sunday Stanton and husband Brad, Shannon Rials, Eren Newland and wife Samantha, Matthew Ford and wife Aven, Justin Ford and wife Alyssa, Lauren Risley and husband Ethan, Michael Harvey, Colton Harvey, Brock Harvey and wife Emma; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. As a teenager, she was a skilled and elegant roller skater. In fact, that is where she met her husband Keith.
She loved traveling with her husband. His pipeline job took them all over the world. In addition to the United States, they also traveled to Brazil, Thailand, and Mexico.
Shirley had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. She was fun to be around, the life of the party. always had a story to tell, and loved to laugh. She defended those she loved and had an exquisite sense of fashion.
The closeness of family was a priority in her life. She attended lots of ballgames, pageants and programs for her grandchildren. She believed that you should forgive, work it out and move forward, keeping your relationship in tact.
Shirley was a determined person and excelled in anything she tried... As a BeautiControl Sales manager, she won trips to Hawaii and New York City and even won a car. As a wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother she was the best.
Christmas Eve was always a fun family gathering. Not many people can say that they hosted a lavish Christmas Eve celebration in their home well into their upper 80's, but Shirley did. She cooked a vast array of party foods including Crawfish Fettuccine and Rice Dressing and loved doing it.
She enjoyed visiting with her friends at the Ladies luncheon group each week at the Chateau or Warehouse Restaurant, and was a former Mardi Gras queen.
We will miss the laughter, lessons and unconditional love she so freely gave. Please join us as we gather to share stories and remember her remarkable journey.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Ford, Ethan Risley, Michael Harvey, Colton Harvey, Brock Harvey & Mike Harvey. Honorary Pallbearer is David Ford
