Stephen Wayne McGee

A memorial service for Mr. Stephen Wayne McGee, 64, of Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, Louisiana, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the service at the funeral home.

Stephen was born November 16, 1959, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and lost his battle with Cancer on October 8, 2024, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church and also attended Grace Point in Monroe, Louisiana.

Stephen and Connie met thru a mutual friend one night at the Dejavu (Vu)…and he loved to tell the story of how he would write notes to her on all the packages she received when he was preloading at UPS before, he became a Driver. She still had some of the boxes up in the attic from him with his notes to her!!!

Stephen was retired from UPS, an avid sportsman and was a true LSU fan to the core. He was also a supporter of many of the local high schools and ULM. Stephen liked to wear a hat and shirt representing the school for the school function he was attending. He had several different shirts hanging in the back seat so he would always be prepared. As one of the coaches Connie talked to said “He can be at all the games Friday night” and that is very fitting for Stephen. He loved to be known as “The Cookie Man” …he distributed cookies from their Subway everywhere he went in his famous yellow backpack. He couldn’t hear many things when Connie would say them to him, but he could always hear someone holler or whisper “Hey Cookie Man”!!! Anybody that knew Stephen also knew he loved the attention…

I wasn’t going to say anything about the house fire but feel like we should let everyone know Stephen had gone in the house to try and get our dogs…he wasn’t able to find/get them, and we think that was the beginning of his downfall in his not being able to fight or beat his Cancer.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Elizabeth McGee, his grandparents Dewey and Dessa McGee, Earl and Francis Albritton and other aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife of almost 40 years, Connie Rea McGee; son, Adam Rea McGee; brother, Scott McGee (Babbi); Niece, Rachael McGee Wardell (Michael) Nephew, Matthew McGee (Alexis), and in-laws, Bob and Vevie Rea, Sister in-law and Brother in-law, Karen and Dr. David Trigg, Niece, Brittany (Matt) Doucey, Nephews Austin and Logan (Katelyn) Trigg and several great nieces and nephews. There are way too many close friends to name…you know who you are!!!

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or MD Anderson Cancer Center as they are both wonderful organizations and have helped our family personally.

Stephen…Adam and I love and miss you already bunches.

The family requests attendees to show support for Stephen’s love of LSU by wearing LSU colors.
