Steven Allen Dade, age 74, of Monroe, Louisiana passed from this life unexpectedly on September 5, 2026.

He was born on January 10, 1952, in Bastrop, Louisiana. Steve grew up in Mer Rouge, La with many cherished friends in an idyllic time when children could ride their bikes anywhere and there were always enough friends to play a game of baseball or go hunting or fishing with.

Steve graduated from Delta High School in Mer Rouge after a brief time at Neville High School in Monroe Louisiana. This is where he and his future wife Mary Ann met. When Steve found out he could not play baseball at Neville, he went back to Delta and then on to Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) where he received a full baseball scholarship. Steve graduated from college in 1974 with a business degree. He and Mary Ann dated through most of their college years, married in 1975 and moved to Bastrop, Louisiana where they lived for the next 42 years and raised their daughter Challie. Steve trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior during the mid-1970s, and is now united with Him in his death.

Steve was in the insurance business and eventually had his own agency of which he said “owning your own business is not all it’s cracked up to be”. Steve grew up with a deep appreciation for the great outdoors and was an avid sportsman and LSU and ULM fan. He spent decades hunting, fishing and exploring the outdoors with his closest friends in numerous states in the south. He was happiest when he was hunting birds or deer, fishing on a quiet pond or his very favorite-stalking elusive turkeys. He will be remembered by many for his quick wit and for being an excellent marksman.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Sadilee and Louis Dade; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and R.G. Hart; brother, Robert Louis Dade; brother-in-law, John Michael Hart; and nephew, Robert Lewis Hart.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann; his much loved daughter, Challie; and his faithful dog, Abby; brother-in -law, Gary Hart and wife Jan Penny Hart of Tucson, Arizona; brother -in-law, Mark Hart and wife Margaret Horton Hart of Sterlington, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Linda Dixon Hart Berkemeyer and husband Ronnie Berkeymeyer of Lake Village, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Although his outdoor adventures declined in the last few years, he leaves behind a large circle of hunting buddies, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to our gracious neighbors for taking the time to engage in conversation when they would see Steve.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 11 o’clock in Feazel Chapel at First West Baptist Church, 500 Pine St. in West Monroe, Louisiana.
