Susie Yvonne Warner

June 18, 1925 — May 26, 2021

A celebration of life for Susie Yvonne Warner will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 9, 2021, in the Chapel Mausoleum at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana.

Susie Yvonne Warner 95 went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2021. She was a resident of Monroe, Louisiana for 70 years and spent her last few years with her son’s family in Lockhart, Texas.

Yvonne was born in Natchez, Mississippi on June 18, 1925. Her father, Ben Hynum, worked for the Missouri Pacific Railway and relocated his family to Eudora, Arkansas when Yvonne was two. She finished grades one through sixth by the time her father was transferred to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. During the summer of 1939 her father would make his last transfer and the family relocated to Monroe, Louisiana. Yvonne attended Ouachita Parish High School and after graduation in 1943, she attended Northeast Junior College and completed her degree in 1945.

Yvonne met her husband, the late Robert Ammon Warner, during his Aviation Cadet Training at Selman Field. After his graduation on June 12, 1943 a two year courtship began and ended in marriage on December 9, 1945; just months after Bob’s separation from the Air Force. While Bob was away at war Yvonne began work as a clerk-typist at Selman Field. She resigned just 6 days before her wedding day. The young couple moved to Lansing, Michigan where Robert attended Michigan State and Yvonne continued to work as a clerk in the Finance Department for Department of Aeronautics and Michigan Department of Agriculture. Once again they would call Monroe home and in 1948 Robert took a job with the Evaporated Milk Association. Their first child, Susan Margo was born in August of 1948. By this time, the family was living at Clover Leaf Dairy of Monroe where Robert managed the dairy. A son, Robert Charles Warner was born February 22, 1951 and just one month after his birth Yvonne’s husband was recalled to active duty. His duty ended in February of 1952 and he returned home to later begin a long career with the Monroe School System.

Yvonne returned back to college and received her B.A. in Education in 1956. Her 18 year teaching career as a third grade teacher began in 1956 and ended in 1975. In 1974 she was hired as a supervisor of numerous programs in the school system. After her retirement in 1986 she returned as a service to her community by serving on the Ouachita Parish School Board. Yvonne was a voracious reader and champion of how important reading is for children.

She was an active member of the Fort Miro Chapter of the DAR, Lea Joyner Methodist Church and served on boards for the West Ouachita Senior Center, Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, and Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.

Yvonne cherished her family and expressed her love to them by her wonderful cooking and hospitality. During her retirement years she enjoyed taking her grandchildren on summer vacations. She will be remembered as a wise counselor and a woman who loved children and loved helping them learn, grow and succeed.

She leaves behind two children, Susan Dillon and step-son Michael, and son Robert Charles and wife Kathy. There are nine grandchildren ; Che Lolley, Justin Lolley, Kristi Mehrens husband Doc, Laura Nelson husband Robert, Charles Turnage wife Stacy, Robert Ben Jewell, Joel Warner wife Jasmine, Emily Timmons husband Everett, Luke Warner and 20 great grandchildren.
