USAF MSGT G. A. (Pete) Davis

A funeral service celebrating the life of retired USAF MSGT G.A. (Pete) Davis will be held on   Monday, November 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Monroe with Pastor William Smith officiating.  Michael Davis will be sharing the eulogy, and special music will be brought by Michael Donohue, Rhonda Hensley, and Pastor William Smith. He will be interred at Northeast Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery in Rayville, La.

Mr. Davis was the 7th of nine children born to Luther and Josie Davis He was born on August 5, 1929 in Wayside, Louisiana and passed from this earthly life on November 22, 2023-.He grew up during the Depression and loved telling stories about going to the movies with a quarter- just enough for a ticket, a moon pie, and an RC Cola.

He was 16 years old when he left home to join the Army and 20 years old when he joined the USAF. At 21, he met and married Miss Ouida Halbrook, and they began an adventure that lasted 72 years and spanned 3 continents and 46 states.

Mr. Davis loved adventure, either on the road or in his own backyard.  No pig trail was too small -especially if it led to treasures like Pivot Rock and Natural Bridges. His children and neighbors delighted in the backyard adventures he created with picnic tables, basketball and badminton courts, and an airplane innertube. After he retired from his second career with the United States Post Office, he and Ouida explored the country in their travel trailer, stopping several times in Branson, Missouri.  Later, they enjoyed cruising through the Caribbean, Alaska, and the northeastern part of the USA.

His three great loves were his country, his God, and his family.  His 20 years with the Air Force were the best years of his career.  He loved working on the planes, attending military air shows, and encouraging young men to enlist.

In 1964, at Stones River Baptist Church in Smyrna, Tennessee, Mr. Davis made a profession of faith in God that impacted the rest of his life.  From that moment, he faithfully attended church every time the door was open.  Children flocked to him to find the peppermints he always carried for them.  He was ordained as a deacon and faithfully served in several churches and was honored as Deacon Emeritus in 2021. Daily, he could be found on the dock reading his Bible.

With his family, he enjoyed vacationing, camping, hunting, sports, and board games, dominoes, and cards.  He could regularly be found on the floor with a grandchild or great-grandchild, and dried the tears of any child who cried.

Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Josie Davis; his siblings, Gertrude Russell, Charles Davis, Sam Edward Davis, Walter Willman Davis, Paul Elijah Davis, Luther Joel Davis, Laura Odell Davis Bryant, and Isaac Eugene Davis; and his daughter, Lisa Marie Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Ouida Davis; his daughters, Rhonda Hensley (Dennis), Jackie Walters (David), and his son, Michael Davis (Connie); grandchildren Kimberly Donohue (Michael), Kristen Nobles (Jory), Jennifer Hensley, Christopher Walters (Jen), Elizabeth Hensley, Zach Davis, and Kelsey Davis; great-grandchildren Tyler Nobles, Alyssa Nobles, Kathleen Donohue, Henry Walters, Levi Donohue, Harlow Kennedy, Kai Kennedy; and nieces and  nephews.
