Vicki Lynn Bonilla passed away on May 6, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was 78 years old. Born on October 19, 1946, in Farmerville, Louisiana, she was raised in Monroe and spent many years living abroad in Costa Rica before returning to Monroe in 1991.
From a young age, Vicki had a deep appreciation for nature and contributed to the development of the natural history museum at Northeast Louisiana University, where she also met her husband, Juan Ramón. After graduation, she taught Spanish at Bastrop High School. She held a lifelong love for foreign languages and literature, especially in Latin American poetry.
After marrying, Vicki moved to Costa Rica, where she became an active member of the Lions Club and dedicated herself to various charitable causes. She was one of the original founders of the “Casa del Banquete” ministry and served for many years as its music director. She deeply loved this church and was extremely proud that the small seed she helped plant grew into a large international ministry.
Upon returning to the United States, Vicki pursued a career in nursing. She earned her BSN from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She then devoted many years to nursing at St. Francis Medical Hospital, where her exceptional service earned her the prestigious Saint Franciscan Award.
Beyond her professional achievements, Vicki was a talented musician who played both piano and Spanish guitar. She also enjoyed drawing in her spare time and did beautiful portraiture. Known for her unwavering kindness, Vicki always put others' happiness before her own. Everyone who met her was touched by her generous spirit and infectious warmth.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Juan Ramón Bonilla; her children, Roberto Adrian Bonilla and Aymee Fernanda Adams; and her brother, Jackie Anderson McCullin. She was preceded in death by her parents, G.W. McCullin (born in Farmerville) and Damah McCullin (born in Ruston), as well as her brothers, Donnie Dale McCullin and Terry Gordon McCullin.
Vicki's legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
