Obituary

“

He lived a life centered around the people he loved, the work he took great pride in, and the simple things that made him happy.

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Leroy Foust, 86, of Mangham, LA, will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Mangham Baptist Church, with Rev. Brian Rogers officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Interment will follow at Family Community Cemetery in Baskin, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.

Walter, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away peacefully lovingly surrounded by his family and his best friends, Jarvis and Rosemary Thomas and “Aunt Donna.”

Walter was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man known to have a very tender heart…especially when he was around his grandchildren. He lived a life centered around the people he loved, the work he took great pride in, and the simple things that made him happy…which might include a good karaoke night.

Walter started working in the parts business when he was just 18 years old. He began his career at Standard Parts and Motor Supply before eventually opening his own store, Walter’s Automotive. Walter believed in working hard and had a simple philosophy: the customer is always right. Even after retiring from the parts business, Walter never really retired from working and in fact continued to work until just about two weeks before his passing.

But as much as Walter loved his work, his greatest pride was always his family.

“

Walter was a man who loved deeply and sometimes quietly. He had a soft heart beneath that sharp-dressed exterior.

Walter and his beloved wife, Wanda, shared 26 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed the life they built in their home, spending time on their “patio,” travelling, and cooking together. They were happy in the simple moments of everyday life. It wasn’t uncommon for family members to get a text letting them know that Walter and Wanda were off enjoying a little date night in Vicksburg. Those little outings, time at home, and evenings on the patio were just part of the life they enjoyed sharing together.

There was always a twinkle in Walter’s eye when he talked about Wanda. The same twinkle appeared when he talked about his children and grandchildren. He adored his kids and loved his family with his whole heart. His family was his greatest joy.

Walter loved being at home, especially when there was good food involved. He was a wonderful cook and a true grill master. He loved anything Wanda made for him and never met a banana pudding or a German chocolate cake he didn't love.

Walter took great pride in his home and his yard. He loved his grass and was often teased that he could probably tell you exactly how tall it was without ever picking up a measuring tape. He liked things neat, cared about the details, and took great satisfaction in keeping his yard looking just right.

Walter believed a man should look his best, and he took his “outfits” every bit as seriously as he took his mowing. He liked his clothes just right, his grass just right, and preferably, both looking good at the same time.

In his younger years, Walter enjoyed softball, hunting, and fishing. As the years went by, his favorite place might have just been his own patio, sitting beside his grill and watching a good game.

Walter was also fortunate to have some lifelong friendships that meant a great deal to him. These were the kind of friendships that stood the test of time, with friends who continued to check in, keep up with one another, and simply be there. Walter valued those friendships and the people who shared so many years of life alongside him.

Walter was a man who loved deeply and sometimes quietly. He had a soft heart beneath that sharp-dressed exterior, and those who knew him best knew just how much he loved them. He was deeply loved. He will be deeply missed. And he will forever be a part of the family he loved so very much.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laura Foust, his grandson, Samuel Thomas Foust, and his siblings, James Foust, Johnny Foust, Charles Foust, Laura Mae Franks and Frank Foust.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Wanda Foust, his children Sherry Kelley (Steve), Scott Foust (Cindy), Rebecca Carraway (Chad) and John Lebeaux; his grandchildren, Austin (Sarah), Laura (Zack), Robert Scott (Gracie), Angel Grace and Tyler(Lauren); and his great- grandchildren, Hudson, Hayes, Britton, Riley, Lillie Claire and Caroline. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Robinson, special sister-in-law, Donna McLaughlin and by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Austin Vidrine, Robert Scott Foust, Zack Pickett and Tyler Carraway, son-in-law, Chad Carraway, and family friends, John Mark Wilhite, Johnnye Ford and John Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jarvis Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Mike Stallings, Jimbo Herlevic, Dickie Shell and Eddie Lester.
