William Kennedy "Ken" Theus

In loving memory of William Kennedy “Ken” Theus, devoted son, and proud graduate of the Kansas State School of Veterinary Medicine and Washington and Lee University, who passed away unexpectedly on October 14th. Ken’s kindness touched the lives of many. A proud recipient of Kansas State’s Gentle Doctor Award, Ken’s compassion and kind-heartedness were unfailing. He coordinated efforts to rescue pets left behind after Katrina, saving hundreds. He quietly donated his time to offer free veterinary care to the pets of sheltered women in San Antonio.

His passion for animals was matched only by his love for the outdoors. Ken’s days were spent not only tending to the well-being of animals but also immersed in the tranquility of nature. A dedicated sheepherder and an avid fisherman, he found solace in his home in Boerne, Texas.

In addition to his pursuits, Ken held a deep and abiding love for his sister, Ellen, cherishing the bond they shared throughout the years. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering support enriched the lives of those around him.

His uncle, Andy, reflected on Ken's legacy, saying, "We can honor him by being better humans to others and by caring for all animals. That is his legacy." In these words, we find a lasting tribute to Ken's compassionate spirit and the values he held dear.

As we bid farewell to Ken, we remember not only the vibrant life he led but also the profound impact he had on his family. He is preceded in death by his father, Edwin Kennedy Theus, Jr., his maternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. Stanley Mintz, and his paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kennedy Theus.  He is survived by his mother Mary Mintz Theus of Monroe, Louisiana, his sister Ellen Theus and her husband Jim Bierylo both of Los Angeles, California, and his treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, and life-long friends. May the memories of Ken’s laughter, compassion, and love for family and nature bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.  May he rest in eternal peace.

The Theus family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ken’s friends Diane, Rachel, Dalton, Denise, Chester, Nikki, Cindy, Connie, and Glenda who selflessly dedicated their time and energy to help organize his affairs and secure loving homes for his cherished animals. Rev. Jim Theus will officiate a service at Riverview Cemetery on November 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to American Cancer Society, Grace Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choosing in Ken’s memory.
