Funeral Services for Mrs. Wilma J. Barnes, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Lakeshore Baptist Church, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes was born April 2, 1935, and passed away on April 19, 2024. Mrs. Barnes was very active in Lakeshore Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years and director of the Homebound Ministry. She was also a board member and volunteer at Christian Community Ministries (CCM). She received her bachelor’s degree in business from Stephen F. Austin University and was employed as the newsletter editor with Central Bank from 1985-1995, when she retired. Prior to this, she was a bookkeeper for an automotive service center in Winnfield, LA, for several years. 

She was a loving mother and grandmother, and was always available with her support, friendship, and occasional advice. More importantly, she lived her life as a shining Christian example and impacted the lives of many by putting her faith into action through her volunteer work.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton B. “Scotty” Barnes; parents, Homer Brumbelow and Creamone Slaughter Brumbelow; step-father, Dan Walker; and sister, Laverne Rayburn.

Survivors include her three sons, Scott Barnes and his wife, Lori, Steve Barnes and his wife, Sharon, and Sam Barnes and his wife, Addie; seven grandchildren, Angela Lain, Dan Barnes and wife Lisa, Cody Barnes and fiancé Cassie Albritton, J. T. Barnes and wife Challis, Meghan Barnes and fiancé Tyler Powell, Austin Barnes, and Kyle Troxell and fiancé Gabby Parker; five great-grandchildren, Sabrina Wilkerson, Peyton Lain, Branson Barnes, Bryson Barnes, and Lucas Barnes; two great-great-grandchildren, Harper and Rylee Wilkerson; sister, Margie Pollard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Austin Barnes, Dan Barnes, J.T. Barnes, and Kyle Troxell, as well as Glen Bennett and Gene Ford of Lakeshore Baptist Church. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver, Candee Hickerson, and the staffs of St. Joseph’s Assisted Living, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, and Always Best Care.

Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
